BACKGROUND & INFLUENCE
Lifelong martial artist with over 24 years of martial arts and yoga training.
At twelve, Kurt Johnsen created his first company and remains committed to innovative entrepreneurship. He has a straightforward goal of creating healthy, happy humans.
Kurt is a lifelong martial artist with over 24 years of martial arts and yoga training. He is a master (5th degree Black Belt) of the Lightening Fire Mountain System of Tibetan Kung Fu.
In 2001, Kurt and his sister Jen followed their passion for health and helping others by creating the World Life Health Center. By 2003, they founded the American Power Yoga (APY) yoga system to bring yoga’s powerful tools to as many people as possible and bridge the paths between yoga and everyday life. APY made the complex principles found in yoga accessible and actionable. Kurt went on to serve as the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders’ official yoga trainer from 2007 to 2011 and created and hosted their MTV yoga DVD-winning Fitness Magazine’s yoga DVD award in 2010. He produced and hosted his 60-day (22 hours of content) DVD comprehensive wellness program, APY60. Johnsen was also selected to create and host 80 episodes of the globally televised show Yoga for Life for Zee Television (aired on Veria TV in the US) and produced hundreds of hours of The New You Show on 105.3 FM in Dallas. Johnsen has also hosted hundreds of hours of his talk show, Healthy Happy Humans, on a local station in Dallas.
By 2012, Johnsen had taught roughly 10,000 classes and trained and certified hundreds of instructors. Along the way, people kept asking him the same three questions: “What should I do, what should I eat, and what should I take?” His quest for the answer led him into genetics, searching for an approachable solution to making better choices based on individual genetics.
He is passionate about blending the best of the old and new and using wisdom from both the East and the West to empower all to create and live the life they want.
He also trained in Lama Yoga, Needle in the Cotton (Tibetan Tai Chi), Chi Gong, acupuncture, herbology, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Tai Chi Chuan. Kurt has explored many forms of meditation, including lucid dreaming and out-of-body-travel. He has also studied Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, and many forms of Christianity.
Aside from his business, yoga, and martial arts pursuits, Kurt is a father, husband, and explorer. Whether diving with sharks in the Blue Hole, hiking Machu Picchu, surfing Costa Rica, or snowboarding the closest snow-covered cap, he is constantly surveying and studying this amazing planet we share. Kurt continues to teach, train, and learn.
