Now on View: Vivid Seas & Frozen Blooms

Our gallery walls are alive with color and meaning thanks to the work of two extraordinary artists: Brenda McKinney and Anna Fritzel.

Anna Fritzel brings us ethereal photographs of frozen flowers—peonies, gerberas, and more—rich with symbolism and layered meaning. Her collection explores the relationship between gender identity, historical representation, and the constructed nature of femininity. Inspired by psychologist Joan Riviere’s concept of the “masquerade,” Fritzel’s images blend vintage poses with contemporary context to question the roots of societal expectations around women and beauty. The frozen florals serve as haunting metaphors for both the strength and fragility of women across generations.

Brenda McKinney, a Dallas-raised painter and mixed media artist, contributes brilliantly saturated seascapes using alcohol inks. A graduate of the University of North Texas (BFA, Fashion Design) and Texas Woman’s University (MFA, Painting), McKinney’s work celebrates fluidity, movement, and intuition. Her use of alcohol inks is both experimental and expressive—each piece a vivid dance of color and composition. “Process is the excitement that drives the action,” she says, and you can feel that momentum in every brushstroke.
Come enjoy these vibrant and thought-provoking works now on display at YAM. Peace, love, and art.
